Approaching Western Disturbance helpful for Rabi Crop

Western disturbance is an extratropical storm originating in Mediterranean region that brings sudden winter to the north-west parts of Indian sub-continent. It is a non-monsoonal precipitation pattern driven by the westerlies. The moisture in these storms usually originates over the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.


Western Disturbance is likely to bring scattered rains to heavy snowfall in western part of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on 9th and 11th December. Night temperature will fall in Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and North India light rains are likely.



Western disturbances provides required moisture to the wheat crop at different phenological stages specially tillering stage in December which will be good for the crop. Low temperature and light rains/dew would be helpful for wheat crop particularly in North India.
